RE: RV's and state weigh stations

Here's the message from Georgia:
Thank you for contacting YOUR Georgia Department of Transportation.
If the vehicle or combination is 10,001 lbs. GVWR or over, you must pull into all open weight and inspection stations. Signs, lighted arrows, or enforcement personnel will guide you.
Please contact the Georgia Dept of Public Safety at EGADPSWEB@gsp.net or (404) 624-7000 to obtain more information about rules and reguations for weigh stations.
Again, we thank you for submitting your inquiry to the Georgia DOT. Please continue to contact us with your comments and questions.

And here's the reply from Maryland:
Thank you for your email and your concern for compliance with state regulations that prompted it. In Maryland, all vehicles over 10,000 lbs. are required to stop at the weigh stations. Maryland has adopted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations which exempt non-commercial recreational vehicles from those safety regulations but not from size and weight laws. If you have any further questions, you may contact Rey Walker, Chuck Shue or me in the Motor Carrier Division by return email or by phone at 410-582-5734. Once again, thank you for your email and we trust you will have a pleasant trip through our State.
Confusing?

RV's and state weigh stations

My brother has a fifth wheel and a heavy Chevy Pick-up. Because of the weight of the pick-up the state of Ma requires him to have a commercial plate. Even though it is not operated commercially he is discovering that he is required to stop at state weigh stations, because his weight is over 10,000.
He e-mailed the appropriate agencies in several states, including Maryland and Georgia. Their reply seems to indicate that any vehicle over 10,000 pounds, even if it's not commercial, is required to stop at the weigh stations.
Does anyone have any current info?

Brake Buddy Vantage

I haven't seen many postings for the Brake Buddy Vantage (proportional). I don't know if this is good or bad. I've had a Brake Buddy Classic for five years, and I've not no problems. I want to upgrade to the Vantage. Brake Buddy will offer a trade-in allowance for the old Brake Buddy. I'm looking for any info on the reliability and effectiveness of the Vantage system.

Disapoinment at Lazy Days RV Center

I bought a new Ellipse last October at Lazy Days. The sales process was very good. Then I had the misfortune to deal with their service department. Several warranty items needed attention in the first few days. The quality of their service work and the competance of their technicians was horrendous. Simple items such as leaking drains were beyond their ability. Everything they did was simply "temporary patch" work, lasting only a few weeks.
A simple item such as a broken latch on one window led to them replacing the entire window. The resulting job was a window, which was all black on a black motorhome on which they used white caulk, making little effort to clean up the caulk on the outside of the motorhome. On the inside the window was misaligned, leaving the window trim about 5/8" away from the wall on the left, and jammed behind the kitchen backspash on the right. They left the backspash pried away from the wall and all the screws chewed up by a power screwdriver.
This and other examples lead me to believe that the service department is the worst I've encountered. Incompetent technicians and supervisors who don't care about the work have been my impression. Winnebago reps were disappointed, but suggested that I travel to factory for proper service on the many items need attention. Finally my letter to the GM of Lazy Days has gone unanswered.
My experience at Lazy Days has been a great disappointment. Buying was easy, but their service and support are terrible.
